I really want to do something like that with my switches, but I know I'll only have one shot at it and don't want to burn or crack the plastic. Should I let a shop do it, or should I try it myself?

All you gotta do is drill holes. You should'nt have any trouble burning or cracking the plastic. I have similar set up with my switches and had no probs at all.

Yeah, you will be able to drill through that plastic fine, just measure twice and use a small center hole to get it exactly where you want it.

P.S. Those white face gauges make me want a grey interior instead of tan.

You can do it. I Did the same thing
But right now I have two switches and two led
IF youur now certain do this Start by drilling a small hole when you start beause by increasing the drill bit slowly and usinig sharp drill bits you will not crack it

go for it. measure twice, drill once. if you happen to screw up, you can always get that piece of plastic from a scrap yard off of a rear ended explorer.

only problem with that spot is the plastic that is behind it. There is plastic on the back that is used for holding a stock switch, I would guess for something like stock fogs or something, I'm not sure. You will probably have to cut that part out in order to put the switches in. Use a dremmel (sp?) with a small cutting bit and you will have no problem.

As stated "Measure twice" from a point that is straight and your switches will be straight.
Leave enough room between the switches so you don't trip two at once.
Those switches look like they are the lighted type, so if you don't use lighted switches how will you remember that they are on (if needed)?

My only problem in the location is my knees hit the dash once in a while (broken switches), long legs I guess. Look for a location that is convenient for you not what only looks good.

I have seen an X with the vent by the driver side door replaced with switches. I want to say three or four switches but I do not remember. Determine how many switches you need and look for a space that fit the switches.

Also, if you screw up on measuring or drilling, an alternative to using a piece of plastic, is a small piece of aluminum to cover the area of the switches. Also, another piece behind the area you drilled would help support the switches.

Of course there are always overhead switches!

Good Luck,

Look s good !

I want to know where he got the racing pedals from :D

they have those pedals in auto zone. Anyways, I was thinking of installing my switches(they are currently just sitting in the tray under the radio) but I wasn't sure where the best place to install them are. Any opinions?

I took out the ashtray, cut away the tray and 12V outlet with a cutoff tool and mounted my switches in the face of the tray. Slid the whole thing back in, looks cool. I'll get pics.

Look at the very top of this forum. It's not my X, but I believe Mat's X from matnchad.com. That's where I want to mount my switches.

Byrd the link doesn't work, says we don't own the album.

Huh, looks like I'll have to become and elite explorer so I can upload photos. Write me an email and I'll send you a pic.

Here are my switches.

Thanks man. I wish I could have used different switches but I need one to be double throw and couldn't find any cool ones in a DT.
