Solved Could it be the transfer case?

91 explorer
My 1991 Explorer acts like it is in neutral when I put it in low range. The light on the dash comes on but when I put it in gear, it acts like it is in neutral. 4h and 2h work perfectly.

I would appreciate anyone's insight.

Assuming you have an electric shift tcase, it's probably the shift motor not turning far enough to reach 4lo. There's a thread around here somewhere on fixing it...
 






Would the 4L not be fully engaged if the indicator light is on?
