Well, when i had first bought my explorer a few weeks ago, the heater/ac controls wouldn't work. The hot/cold seletor worked, and the fan worked, but the vent controls would only allow air the be blown out the Defroster at any setting but off. Off actually worked.

For some reason, the controls now work, but the AC doesn't work. I checked the compressor to see if the clutch was kicking in, and it's not. So i'm going to check the fuse, but what else could it be if it's not the fuse?

ALSO - my power door lock doesn't lock the passanger door. The switches work, but when i press any "lock" button, the door doesn't work. The lock works with a key and manually, just not with the power. What kind of fix is this?

I keep hearing of cleaning the MAF sensor and how it can improve some bogging and hesitation. So i went to the auto parts store and purchased some throttle body cleaner that is O2 safe. But when i went to look for the MAF, i couldn't find it. Perhaps it's right in front of my face, but i don't see it. I have a '96 4.0, and have looked all around the throttle body, the black tube, and the air filter. I've seen many wires and connections, but none with torx (security star) holding them in place.

Could someone please explain in detail WHERE it is located. I've already searched the files and found info on HOW to do it, but i don't know where the MAF is! It's so frustrating. Perhaps include a pic?

I'm off to check the fuse for the AC while a await your responses...

Thanks!!!!!

If the freon level is low the pump will not turn on. this prevents the pump from burning out. Your MAF is usually located just after you air box. And it may or may not have two safty torx on it (mine didn't). When you remove it it looks like a light bulb element.
What did you do, to prove out, that the switch for that door lock works? (the key and your hand lever is machanical )

Your MAF Sensor in inside the airbox on the newer models. If you undo the clamp on the airbox, the top half is still connected to the intake tube. Well, loosen the hose clamp that holds the top half of the airbox to the intake tube and remove the top half of the airbox. Now turn the airbox over and look through the hole that was just attached to the intake tube. You will see the 2 Torx screws. If you look through the filter side hole, you will see the 2 light bulb like filaments that schultz spoke about. Take the Torx screws loose and carefully remove the little cover plate. Then you can clean them with your O2 safe cleaner. Good Luck!!

Sorry, I don't have any ideas for your electrical problems. But good luck with them also!!

progress... but not much

so i checked all of the fuses, and none were out. However, they looked dirty so i cleaned off the connections. Voila! the compressor works now. But it does not blow cold air.

Now i have an AC system that does not blow cold air. What could be the problem?

If the freon is low but not to low to shut the compressor off. It will blow warm air. Mine was 1/2 lb. low this year and thats what it did.
