first- On my 97 ranger, i had a dual battery setup....I really liked having the 2 way radio equipment and any other accessories i was using on a separate battery, so i always knew i would be able to start the truck.... I have the isolator, all the connectors, etc. only thing i don't immediately see is a good place to put a second battery. On the ranger, i put a marine battery in the toolbox. simple, out of the way. anyone else running dual batteries? ideas?

second- I'm not sure what the alternator output is (2002 XLT, 4.0, 4x4), but are there aftermarket higher-output alternators out there for this engine? (i.e. direct-bolt-on replacements)

thanks
Ken

Ken,

I have not done either (dual battery or HO alternator) but I know several Forum Members have (I've read the threads). Try using the Search feature, I'm sure you'll find everything you need to know.

Dave.

Can you get up a pic of the engine bay?

I have dual full size batteries, but I have a 92. Must be cramped in a 2002.

I think if i use a red top for starting and a "SMALL" case size yellow top for the accessories, i can fit it all in. the ONLY concern i have now is where to mount the isolator. I'll take some pics as this progresses...headed to sears sometime next week to pull my battery and see how the optimas fit. got a buddy who works there, so pulling stuff and dropping other stuff in is allowable, since i'm a "customer" (probably will buy them there anyway, but gotta try and plan it all out FIRST. )

You can probably hide the isolator behind the grille somewhere.

I would make sure to put it somewhere in the passenger side. You already got the factory battery and the gas tank in the driver side. You don't need additional weight there. If you could move the factory battery too. :)
