Ok so had a nice complete thing typed up to post with all the questions I had thought of and such and the server hiccuped when I tried to post it DOH

Even though I may get flamed by some for A being a noob and B wanting to put clear lights all the way around oh well.

Anyways on to the second attempt at the post:

'94 Navajo 4x4 5 speed on 235 75 15s now truck is almost completely stock. It has only had a new clutch, tires and new MAF put in other then the regular tune up stuff. I cant believe the people I bought it from never changed the shocks. Its like riding in a canoe on the N. Atlantic.

I want to raise it up at most 4 inches (suspension I dont like BL at all). I am not in an area that I have a ton of use for a fully offroad super navajo. I jsut want to be able to get around to the few areas that I do know of for having some fun and also use it when I go camping etc.

so after hunting around the forums here (I prolly just didnt look in the right spot) I have yet to see what I need to get to use the F150 front and rear springs. So what do I need to buy to do that? Can I use the entire Leaf pack or do I have to move springs around to use them and what do I have to do to use the front coils?

Im right now looking at putting in an actual posi or similar rear in the truck considering the rear right now is open and single wheel. Any suggestions on what to put in there (considering at least for now I wont be doing heavy off road stuff I would like to get middle of the curve)?

Anyway to tell without dropping the rear diff cover if I have the 27 or 31 spline axles? (found a site that had the listing of all the equip for all the navajos from 91-94 at one point)

I am looking at getting the James duff dual shock kit for the front possibly. Does anyone know of any dual shock kits for the rear of the Explorers?

Im sure that there is more that i have forgotten to ask etc and I will once I remember it.

Just got the spare center console for my truck yesterday, still waiting for the spare dash bezel before I start designing and building stuff inside the truck

Tom has been working on the server.

Other thanthe 1st. gen Explorer clear tail lights there is nothing out there for the Navajo.

For the 2" lift all you need is the 2wd F150 coil spring spacers out of like a 1994, for the fron of your truck, the rear only needs a set of 2" lift shackles.
All us Navajo/Sport owners recoment that you use the 4dr Explorer rear springs.

The axles in your truck are 31 spline, Mustains and some Rangers are 28 splines.

No one that I know of makes a dual rear shock set-up, but if your creative enough anythign can be done.

Hope this helps somewhat.

Gee, I thought I was pretty clear in my post about what needed to be done to incorporate F150 leaves into your Exporer's (& Navajo) leaf pack.

First, the F150 leaf mod will not get you 4" of lift. You're better off having the leaf packs specially built with that amount of lift. There are several companies out there (Dever, Eaton Detroit, ARB, etc.) that will build leaf packs to your specs. However, it's not cheap. If you want to do the F150 leaf mod, you'll need to start with the main leaf of a 4 door Explorer leaf pack. Then, add the F150 leaf pack (minus the F150 main leaf) to the Explorer main leaf. That's it. There are more things to consider and look for (which explains why my original post is so long) but that's the jist of it. In my opinion, shackles are not the way to go to get lift, they add too much instability.

Jeff (SVO) has a nice 'ho and should be able to answer your questions, if he hasn't already.

Good luck & have fun - Dave.

I knew that the rear leafs wouldnt give the full 4. I figured I would have to do the warrior shackles + the rear leaves at least for now. Yours may have been clear and I may have just gotten brain overload reading all the stuff over the last few days.

I already need a new right ball joint so I am kind of trying to get some stuff done before I get it done and get a new alignment. BUT is it worth replacing both sides (L and R) at the same time?

Woot remembered one other question I have:

the alternator in my truck is weak (read old and stock) I have found a place that sells 300 amp alternators that are direct bolt on replacements supposedly BUT what wiring am I going to seriously have to beef up to avoid having a smoldering pile of parts instead?

I don't know of any wiring mods you'd have to make. The built in regulator will only let the alternator let out as much juice as needed, so normally it'll just put out the normal 8-18 amps. Unless you're running a pretty extensive sound system I wouldn't worry about having to get a higher capacity alternator. You'd be connecting direct to the alternator anyway, so there's no wiring involved.

Am I stupid?

thats the thing I am looking at doing a pretty extensive Sound system. 4 12's 2 10's 2 6x9's 4 6x8's and at least one set of 6.5 components.

total of 7 amps plus at least one car PC (for GPS and music).
