ive got a 94 sport 4x4

ive been using the 4x4 quite frequently cuz of the weather we have here in iowa. well the other day, i had 4x4 engaged. then got on the highway, and shut it off cuz the highway is dry. so i begin to pick up speed and start hearing a loud zinging sound, getting louder the faster i go.......is this the 4x4 staying engaged after i press the button to take it out?

also another thing. my sport is equiped with ABS brakes.
when you press on the brake and the ABS does its thing, does that ever go out? or will i always be able to count on it?

thanks for everyones input.

If you didn't disengage the hubs (auto you have to reverse direction for 10 feet, manual you have to get out and manually move to "free"), that noise is likely the sound of the front drivetrain spinning with the wheels.

With some ABS systems, if you modulate the brakes, (press hard, feel the ABS turn on, lift a little, then press hard again), this can momentarily turn off your ABS.

I've not had good luck with ABS systems, so I do this a lot. I feel that can stop sooner with threshold braking than with ABS. At least 2 wheel ABS.

I used to have the same problem with my Auto Hubs. It is normal under the conditions you described for the Auto Hubs to stay engaged after the button is pushed until you back up the 10 ft as stated by MrShorty. They also would sometimes desengage at a stop light or while the vehicle was going slow but not always. My Auto hubs eventually broke so I replaced them with manual hubs.

yeah, it seemed to help after that whining sound, i stopped, put it into 4 wheel again, then turned it off and the sound was gone, but from now on, with AUTO locking hubs, i will reverse for a little bit. Thanks.
