Replacing this sensor on my V8 2002 Explorer looked like a simple task. Remove one bolt (8mm head), release one connector, slide out old sensor, reverse steps to install new sensor. Except the sensor hits the A/C pulley before it can be slid all the way out of the timing cover. I removed the belt to see if that would open up some wiggle room to slide the sensor out, but it wasn't enough. Unless I'm missing something, this seems like an unbelievably silly packaging flaw on the part of the engineers who designed the "front dress" for this engine.

Anyone done this job? Is it easier to remove some or all of the compressor mounting hardware and swing it out of the way, or just remove the pulley?

Just unbolt the compressor
