will turn over? is wanting to start but doesnt? im not sure about a crankshaft sensor. they have asensor for everything. maybe a spun bearing or a cracked head thats not allowing you to build enough compression to keep her spinning. sorry icant help too much ide have to be there. give us as much info as possible. we'll get you going again.

and...
welcome to the site. where are you at in Indiana? im from Michagen city.

I'm not sure what the crankshaft sensor would have to do with it not starting.
But I did have a problem with the wires that run down the front of the block to the crankshaft senser would make contact with one of the pullys and it would short out and kill the engine.
Might be worth a check to make sure that you don't have that wire right up against any pullys or moving parts.

Hope that helps.

more info

sorry got that other one in its on thread........We seemed to have checked everything, we had obd II codes P0300-303 for misfires(codes read after truck died) The check engine light came on and truck remained fine, then one week later it died while pulling out of driveway and refuses to restart or even try. We have fuel and spark, changed spark plugs which were wet with gas. There are currently no codes after clearing them but it also wont restart to do a good check. She cranks thats it doesnt try to start, we are at wits end we have checked everything so far except that crank sensor and we had read alot of posts about it in past. But something just ownt allow it to start and we dread having to take it to ford to be diagnosed and cost us a fortune and they probably wont be right either..lol. Any help willing taken

Crank position sensor

I just pulled my Crank position sensor ( I am getting 214 error code). I can tell you that with the sensor unplugged the engine will not start, I tried mine. The sensor has magnet in the pickup end. I hooked mine to an ohn meter and passed a piece of metal in front of it,
The meter did show a change. Thats all I know for now
I am going to buy one tomorrow ($60) for my 95 Explore.
My problem is interminten. Good luck and I hope this helps. Steve

Have you tried your inertia switch?

I changed my plugs the dam inertia switch blow somehow while I was changing the plugs. That really messed with my head!!! Finally, I thought well what if and sure enough it was the inertia switch! Pushed the button and verooom!!!

Another thing maybe the fuel pressure. How do you know you have fuel pressure?

Can you put a timing light on a couple of plug wires to see if it's firing?

I feel for you! Nothing worst than a broken down FORD in your driveway!!! LOL

Thanks all

Well we want to thank all we have checked everything and we are 99.9% sure we jumped the timing so it has been trailered to Ford and it rests in the arms of th big Blue oval gods tomorrow morning, butwe had (shhhh a GM) mechanic listen he said oh yeah its the timing and there is baring compression but everything else in the truck is fine, but hey timing is fine with me that is fixed for free due to recall warrenty...I'll let you all know for sure

Let us all know what they find out. I think everyone here is curious and stumped!

Good luck.

Well all who was curious yes it was the timing chain..as Ford words were it "exploded" they are pretty sure engine has to be replaced too because metal shavings traveled after it broke..but due to the recall it is all paid for thank goodness.........so if any of you 97 and 98 havent done you timing chain and assembly recall do it before the time/mileage is up!!!!!!! Onlu thing is now it is suppose to snow and I am without a vechile for AWHILE and get to drive the trusty Mustang in the snow.....thanks everyone for help and suggestions on the way

My trusty Mustang doesn't venture out in the cold.. It only likes nice sunny warm summer days.
I'm glad that Ford is replacing the engine for you. Hey maybe they can replace my entire Exploder one day.
No snow in Central IN but I'm sure it will be here soon enough.
I just hope it doesn't take too long for them to fix it.
