What is this noise ? 98 M'neer with 105k miles has a creaking ( like a loose floor board under foot) noise at the front end. I can hear it as the car comes to a stop. It is definitely a rotating related noise almost like a high spot as the wheel rotates. As you pick up speed it changes to a rub type noise but then it is not noticeable at road speed - actually it may be two noises. This has been evident for the past several thousand miles - seems to be getting slightly more evident with time.

Otherwise the front end is tight and tracks very well. Shocks were just changed but did not alter the noise

Could it be CVs ?
Brake noise ?
Springs ?
Torsion bars ?

anybody have anything similar ? what did you discover ?

thanks

sounds more like brakes to me. springs don't rotate (and you dont' have any :p) wouldn't be torsion bars since they really don't move more than a few degrees i think, especially under deceleration. My theory is maybe front brake warpage. when my front rotors wore out (i was lazy and let them score the right-front rotor) i replaced them with heavy duty rotors off tirerack. if you look, they're the black EBC rotors that are slotted, vented, and dimpled for about $200 incl shipping. they're a little noisy, but worth it in my opinion. :)
