crown vic wheels on 2nd gen?

i was wondering if anybody out there knows if the backspacing from 2000's crown vic wheels would fit on my 96 2wd explorer. ive been thinking of getting the steel 16" wheels for my explorer. but for others they also made 17" aluminum for the sport models. anybody ever try this?

2002 and back will fit fine. 2003 up has the wrong back spacing for pre-Gen3 Explorers. Gen 3 Explorers can use 2003 up but not 2002 back. Crown Vic we are talking ..... All are 5-4 1/2 or 5-114.3 bolt pattern.
