hey guys,

so i was driving to work today. and i went to push my on button on the cruise control on the steering wheel, and well my finger kept going. it basically pushed the on/off button mount off the collumn. its still hanging there and still functional. i was driving and i was feeling around and didnt feel and screws or anything like that to take the plastic cover around the column off. so my question for you guys and galls is this:

how do i mount these back sturdy to the column? is it glued on (saw a post about something like that), or is it just a plastic piece that simply broke?

and how would i take the steering wheel apart to get to these?

Thanks guuys!

Brandon

They can be replaced, but I just super glued mine back on, and now I just make sure not be too forceful. Been that way for a couple years now. It is mostly an issue in the winter, as the buttons get really stiff when cold. I have too many other things to fix, to be monkeying around with a proper replacement right now.

First, disconnect the battery cable. 2nd, there are two plugs on the back of the steering wheel, one on each side. Remove plugs, remove the two screws, pull airbag from steering wheel, disconnect the wire. remove two screws holding broken pieces of C/C botton and get out the super glue. I have done this twice on my 96. The last time I put some glue on the steering wheel where it is touching the C/C button, just for a little extra support. Don't use the button for about 12 hours, just to be sure the glue has cured.

I never removed anything, just glue and hold it in place FIRMLY for about 15 seconds. You have to hold it precisely, perfect mating of the parts at the break is critical.

hey thanks guys for the quick reply! i have found the parts online for between 30 and 60 bucks. thank you for helping.

i think i am gona take it apart maybe tommoorw and then i will go for the superglue idea and tape. and see if that works. if not when i get back from my trip i will buy new one.

Wait at least 10 minutes after disconnecting the battery to ensure the airbag won't deploy in your face during removal.
