I had a very scary problem with the cruise control on my 95 Limited yesterday. Cruising in the right lane on I75 with the cruise set at 70, I came up an another car that I needed to pass quickly. I stepped on the gas, pulled out and passed him and then backed off the gas to let the cruise take back over as usual. The pedal went to the floor and I continued to gain speed. I tapped on the brake to disconnect the cruise but it didn't disconnect. I hit the off button on the steering wheel and it didn't disconnect. Finally, I slammed on the brakes a couple of times and it finally disconnected. Kinda sounds like a Toyota. Has anybody else ever experienced this?

your cruise control cable probably got stuck theres a recall, or was one.

try this

open the hood take the cable off the throtle body and see how far it comes out.

the casing around it frays and get stuck.

also could of been a floor mat.

also check the accelerated cable.

Cables are good, no frays. It wasn't a foor mat because I don't have any. I'm going to replace the actuator/cable assembly and go from there. Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it.

I have only seen cable issues.

only once did i actually see the throttle body stick. i forgot to add make sure the throttle body can move freely with the vehicle off.

Thanks, yes the TB is clean and free. I ordered a used actuator and cable on Ebay. Hope it does the trick.

quickly "rebrand" the truck with the appropriate logo and your "good to go".... :-) Sounds like an actuator / controller issue as your speed appeared to be increasing and braking had no effect.

you might also contact the NTSB or what ever, to see if they are interested in looking at the part for failure just in case it is something they haven't seen or maybe need more info on.

Replaced the actuator/controller unit today and all seems fine again.
