'99 Eddie Baur
I purchased a '99 Eddie Bauer 4.0 about a year ago. The cruise control has never worked, however the previous owner said it always worked up until the vehicle was involved in a front end fender bender (she ran into someone at a stop light). There was minimal damage, however the CC stopped working at this time. Also, the horn stopped working. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Cable might be loose or disconnected.

I edited the original post to say that the horn stopped working at the same time the cruise control stopped working. Are they related? Thanks.

could be your clockspring.

What is a clockspring and where is it located? Is it easily replaced or repaired? I really appreciate any help anyone can give me. Thanks again.

It can be done DIY.. search about it.. it basically under the steering wheel cover.

I located and fixed the problem. It was only a blown fuse located in the fuse box under the hood......one of the "mini" fuses. The horn and the cruise control are both working now. Thanks for all of the input.

i have the exact problem with my 97aero who would of known the horn and cruse related....

Mine acted up on me last week; I was driving on the highway and figured I'd set the cruise. Pressed the Cruise button and the green light came on, got to the desired speed and pressed the set button but the car never held the speed. I tried numerous times with the same results so I turned the cruise off.
Tried turning it on again and it would not come on; I think I'll check the fuse on my car and hope for the best.

BTW, are the cruise "buttons" supposed to be hard as a rock or pliable? My "on" button is actually starting to split from being pressed and the button used to set the cruise seems to be loose from the wheel; I think I pressed too hard when trying to set the speed. Like I said, these buttons are hard as a rock and it makes it difficult to tell if you're pressing in the right spot.
