Ive cleaned the contacts under neath the push buttons on the steering wheel. That worked on one of my vehicles. Also, check to make sure the cable didn't come off the throttle body. On my Mustang, it turned out to be the amplifier which is under the dash and runs about $100. Without wiring diagrams and a good knowledge of electrical parts troubleshooting, it can be tough to find. I had help from my father-in-law on mine. Good Luck!
Well I just checked the cables and everything under the hood looks ok. I suppose Im going to have to crawl underneath and take a peak. Does anyknow if the trans control module has anything to do with the cruise contol?
i am not sure if this is it, but did you check the horn fuse? mine was blown and my horn and cc didnt work.....started yanking out fuses and found a burnt one and put in a new one and viola! cc was restored
I would check all the vacuum lines. i.e. the fan screwed up on mine and all the air would come out of the defrost vents, no matter where the switch was. Turns out, during plug change, I must have pulled the vacuum line from the 'ball' (about 4" diam.) located on the pass side just below and between the air box and fender well.
Also, on the Volvo, the CC quit working...same deal..vacuum line came off.
Check 'em all.
Badegg. The cruise control on my 91 XLT 4x4 Explorer stopped working. I asked a Ford place to look at it and they said the control electronics module was sickly and needed to be replaced, but they did not replace it. Now the cruise control sort-of-works but has problems in certain vehicle speed ranges (especially slower speeds). I looked in the Haynes manual and can not find anything about the cruise control. Check the vacuum hose for transmission fluid. When the moulator on the transmission becomes defective, oil will get into the vacuum lines and also into the intake manifold causing poor performance.
Happened on my 94 Sport last winter.
Changed the modulator on the transmission, replaced the vacuum hose and it worked again.
I have tranny fluid in the curise control vacume hose comming of of the tree. Do you have the part # for the modulator. I am asking because Ford only had one listed and is was $700!!!!
Try Ford Parts Network - Torrie should be able to track down the correct part. The tranny vacuum modulator is DEFINITELY NOT a $700 part. The Ford guy musta been smoking something.....
