The Cruise Control hasn't worked since I've bought the truck used. Are there any simple things, such as fuses or wire connection I might be able to check in hopes of some easy fix? Whenever I hit the ON, I don't get any indicator lights, so I'm hoping for a fuse somewhere.

Anyone know where and what to check? The more descriptive of location you can be the better as well, I've not got any diagrams of the the truck or electrical to work from-not even a fuse layout diagram.

Thanks!

No one care to take a stab at this one? :p

vaccum hose

theres a hose goin g from the cc solenoid to the engine vacuum tree. when i bought my truck, the guy had plugged it up. that would be my first guess, or check the fuse for the radio, as they are on the same circuit

The radio still plays, so I guess that rules out the fuse. Hmmm... Where is the CC Solenoid? I'm going to have to invest in a Service Manual I can see... ::sigh::: Also, can anyone scan a layout of the fuses or direct me to a link? There isn't one with the fuse box...

The vacuum hose mentioned in previous posts travels throug the firewall to a bleed valve above the brake pedal. Check for proper installation of this valve, it should be installed into bracket above the brake light switch far enough to depress the plunger. If its not installed correctly it will constantly bleed vacuum which tells the CC that the brake pedal is depressed.

did you get the manual? it should have a layout.....ford could give you one too off therir computer. how it going with that? mine went out too.......

I am not a 100% but I dont think they make them with a indicator light to show that its on, if they come with one then mine dont work either.

There is an indicator in the instrument panel that lights up when you engage the cruise control. Forget what it says, but its something like "speed contol". It's on the right side.

Definitely do a vacuum check of the whole vehicle, not just the crusie control. On another vehicle I had, cruise did not work because of a vacuum leak on another system. Apparently the leak on one system was just enough to affect the cruise control

The only catch there is, without a diagram to reference the locations of all these things-I'm having a heck of a time determining whats what to check for leaks.

I still haven't managed to find a diagram of the what fuse is what in the fuse panel either (not in my manual for some reason-just shows the engine bay fuses). Anyone have any of these they'd pass on?

Thanks everyone for the continued help. I knew this tuck was going to be a bit of work when I got it, high-mileage and all, lol...

Just need to buy some service manuals now...

go to EBAY and search on ford explorer manuals. Some guy is out there selling the factory manuals on CD for fords. Paid $16 (includes shipping). better than the haynes and chilton manuals. Don't get over zealous while bidding. Some clowns bid themselves to $61 while the seller had other auctions going at the same time.

Hey there bro so your say that when you hit the on botton on the CC then hit the SET ACC button. There is no light that say speed control on the upper right hand side of your guages. Your speed control light won't come on till you hit the set acc button. But even that if you hit the on button then the set acc button does the CC work and just no light or no light and no CC?????

Nope, no light, no CC. Just like I never pushed em.

There is NO CC light on the early Explorers.. (I've only checked 91,92 and 93)

Our CC was out for almost a year.. then I found a fuse under the dash that was out (in the fuse box).. I don't remember what my book showed it for.. but it wasn't the cruise in my book.. I changed it.. and then I had CC again..

Mine ended up being the brake light switch. A vac. line runs to the top of it and if the switch is not pushed in all the way CC will not work.

There is no light for the cruise control when its on in my 93, so I doubt you have one.

I had the same problem after my truck had been to ford for a totally unrelated problem. They accidently disconnected the cable for the cruise control and it wasn't a fuse at all. The cable is located on the driver side of the engine bay, and I *think* wires right around to the throttle body assembly. Been a while since i looked at the manual and for that part under the hood.

But my buttons did the same as yours...nothing. Didn't work at all. I brought my truck back to ford and demanded they fixed it (at their cost which only took seconds) before heads started rolling ;)

try looking at the fuze box and see if it says any thing about cruise control fuze and test it and c if its bad

Anyone feeling really helpful and want to snap a digital picture of a few of these places I'm supposed to check? I've still not managed to find the problem and can't honestly say that I'm 100% I'm checking the right places. I did, as recommended earlier aboce, purchase the repair manual from ebay-but found that it is sorely lacking in the diagnosis department for this problem.

It has to be something so simple and stupid that I'll want to kick myself when it is over. Argh!?!?
