My 1995 Sport had one of the defective cruise control switches. The cruise control was working, but I was concerned about the switch because of the amount of brake fluid around it and also the fact that I smelled a very slight burning smell in that general area. I bought the revised switch at the dealer, since apparently my truck has not been recalled yet. I installed it, following Ford's installation procedure. The wiring can only be plugged in one way, you can't go wrong with it. Anyway, now the cruise is not working. All connections are good, the cruise control fuse is not blown, and the original harness looks okay. Any ideas of what went wrong? I was under the impression that the "brake repair kit" could be used to replace any bad Texas Instruments switch, but maybe not? Any ideas are greatly appreciated here.

I do have a good Texas Instruments switch from my Ranger at my parents' house, but that is two hours away. The next time I am over there I may try using that switch though since it isn't leaking yet.

Well.... how about using a meter to check the switch, if its "open" when your vehicle is "just sitting there" (ie. no brakes on), then you have a problem with the switch. If its "closed", then your problem is elsewhere.... next stop... one of the other switches (ie. brake switch or cruise activation switch).... OR maybe that "fuse looks OK" but should be checked with a meter... :-)

Put the old switch back in and see if it works.

It turned out to be a bad connection with the new adapter harness. Everything is fixed now.
