I ask for some clarification on changing out the steering wheel cruise, audio, heater control switch's and apparently no one has addressed this issue before.
My cruise switch cover fell off in my lap while driving. Only the left hand switch failed. I finally found the Ford part numbers,F80F-18C844-AB/BA which is both switches with the wiring harness. Ford quoted a price of $554.00 carry out for both and you can not buy just one side.

The R&R for these switches seems to be similar to the more common style requiring the discharging of the air bag but from there on it is much simpler. After removing the two small round covers on the back of the steering wheel a small screw driver can be inserted behind the switch and gently push it toward the driver. Once you see it start to rise from the steering wheel you can insert a thin blade screw driver and gently pry it out. The only thing holding it in place are three tabs around the perimeter of the switch. One is over the pointed upper end and one down eack side. It is not nessasary to remove the air bag on this job.
Once the switch is free of the steering wheel the wiring can be unplugged by depressing the lock tang on the harness.

I went on Ebay and found both switches for $49.95 and installed the and it is good as new. I did find out that these switches are also used on other Ford cars and trucks like Crown Vic, Lincoln, Excursion.

thanks for the info.
