My cruise control does not work. When u press the button the cruise light comes on but does not hold speed. Any Ideas? Also would anyone no the part number for the light bulb sockets that go to the instrument panel?? This seems like something they should have at an autoparts store, but i went there and the kid said they didn't have them. I think he was being lazy. Thnaks for the help :salute::us:

Regarding the cruise control, did you read my reply to your other thread?

Regarding the lamps, they are PC194 which is basically the 194 bulbs mounted in their own twist socket. They cost about $1 each at my local auto store (try NAPA or similar, not autozone or advance). It may be possible to unbend the contact wires and replace just the bulb portion, but I don't think you can just pull out the old and plug in the new. Bottom line is, it's just plain easier to get the proper bulbs and replace them. Note: the PC194 bulbs are just for the night-time illumination. Indicator bulbs (turn signal, high beam, etc) are different.

I'll answer for him: yes, in an earlier thread he mentioned that, during some shifts, the rpm will race slightly (about 1,000rpm) before seeming to "grab hold". He mentioned that the first time this happened to him, he noticed a flashing "OD" light. I suggested that he might want to have a transmission shop check the valve, that frequently leaks, inside the pan. I had also reccommended he check for the disconnected crusie control switch on the master cylinder. In retrospect, if this switch is disconnected, the cruise light on the dashboard would probably not illuminate at all.

I had the same problem; ended up being that the little plastic clip where the cruise control cable connects to the throttle body, had broken. I replaced the TB with one that didn't have broken plastic.

It takes two seconds to check:
-Pop the hood
-Look at your CC cable
-If it's dangling or not connected, you found the problem

Good luck, keep us updated!:navajo:

Sorry for the late response, thanks to all those who chimed in. As far as the cruise control, the harness is connected, my light in the panel comes on when the button is pushed. As far as the tranny, My wife took it today, she said she was stopped at a stop light, when the light turned green she went to take off and she said it acted like it was in neutral, it just creeped along, then finally caught up, and the o/d light was flashing. She got to her destination did her thing then on the way back it didn;t do it, acted like it never happend.:salute::us:

and also, I wrote another thread about chiming that wouldn't stop. One member said that my air bag light bulb was burnt out. Sure enough when you turn they key on and all the other indicators came on, the air bag light did not come on. I took my instrument panel out and notice the air bag and abs light bulbs had been removed. Not even the sockets were there. Smells fishy, think the guy who sold it to me, got me good. Went to the ford dealership to get the light socket for those two indicators and they cost $15 each!

Regarding the sockets, my question would be... why were they removed? ALso, regarding your cruise problem.... check your master cyclinder to see if you have the 'brake deactivation switch' on it. It would be on the front of the master cylinder. I'm not sure if the 99 has that or not, but it was a known problem for the 95s. Ford actually had a recall on them due to a potential fire issue.

I have the same trouble with my cruise control , it flash when i push the button but speed is not hold , i own the truck since a year and i never had trouble before, transmission shift very good and ABS is disactivated since i buy the truck , had a bad front wheel sensor. But cuise control have always worked well.

Thanks .
