2004 Explorer XLT 7 pass.
I've got an 04 Explorer XLT 4.0. Last week while using cruise the engine rpm's dipped a little and then the cruise shut off. I was able to manually accelerate and drive it, no problem. At some point the wrench light went on. It's done it a few more times, so now I just don't use the cruise. Yesterday though, the service engine light came on. I scanned it and had a P2104 fault (forced idle, although it seems to run just fine). I had a few more codes, but I'm pretty sure they are from past issues that I didn't clear (2111, 2112, 2135). I find it hard to believe that the cruise issue and then the fault appearing a week later is a coincidence.
My plan is to replace the cruise control cutout switch, clear the codes and see if them come back or if the issue returns. If it does my next guess would be to replace the throttle position sensor and see if that helps. Both of these actions are just from what I've learned googling, and are within my limited abilities. And they are cheap solutions.
Any advice on whether I should or should not do this would be much appreciated...
