Hello all~
I have a 1994 explorer XL, 2 wheel drive 5 speed manual. I am seriously considering putting in a 5.0L v8 motor. I know the newer explorers come with it as an option, and I'm wondering if they have a similar engine bay. Also, I've heard it done half a dozen times with the Ranger pick-ups, so I would think I have a similar setup except with 3 more seats and a trunk? right now I'm looking for good reading and information sites. Are there any engine mount adapter kits or instructions for customizing them? Would I be able to use say a mustang 5 speed manual transmission with the engine from one? Any ideas or comments would be welcomed. I can picture putting a "V8" emblem on the side of it... it would be unique and sweeet.

all righty, thank you very much... I'm 17 right now still going to school for automotive, and this explorer is in near mint condition and such, I feel before I throw a 5.0L in there, I will run this motor into the ground.... I have high hopes to making a unique vehicle and learning a lot... take care!

Plan... and plan alot, learn the wiring, start finding little stuff now =) like wiring harnesses, 5.0 parts (intakes etc) for your swap well ahead of time, my swap went in messy due to it dropping in my lap (well least when my tranny blew up) so alot of the stuff i did was "on the fly" with no research examples: the set of duff v8 swap headers i have in my shop cause they didnt fit, wiring still hanging in my engine bay that dont go anywhere, no tach :( and a few other little things

I know what you mean, if my current 4.0 ever blows or something like that I plan to roll it into my grandpa's garage and take it off insurance because it will be there for A WHILE, and gradually do the 5.0 stuff... I would study where all the connections are so that I could make adaptions and such... thanks!

Do yourself a favor and get the WHOLE mustang/Explorer. do the swap, then sell off what you didn't use. No running around for that little part you forgot or didn't know you needed. Generally it will cost less in the long run.

Another Idea is rather than swap into this... how about maintaining the **** out of my explorer and then just get a 5.0 mustang and u se that.... lmao...
