Custom Intake/Stock Intake??

The bottom half of the air box is held in with four rubber grommets, two on the bottom and two on the fender side. Just yank the box out and it'll come.

So for 03's there is a full intake we can buy, and your mod is for 04 & 05? Just don't wanna cut my X to peices if there's something I can buy for it :).

yes 2002-03's have a K&N INTAKE

I posted it for the 04-05 V6 memebers, the 02-05 V8 members have K&N INTAKES also...

yea holy wow...

have you done any driving yet ?

Not a fan of K&N, never really trusted them, never will.

Had too many problems with their filters in previous cars.
Their intakes are over priced and over-rated.(in most cars i've seen)

My truck runs better with the stock paper filter.

----------

Not a bad idea with the cutting though!
(if you want a different sound.)

Although the "more responsive throttle" isn't exactly a power gain, it's just because you took out a lot of the pressure that the airbox housing creates....thus "feels" faster, but really isn't.

I'd rather go for straight engine performance, but to each his own i guess!

Yes i did alot of driving right after I did it I drove 4 hours upstate, awesome sound when cruising at 70-75, also when downshifting to change lanes you really feel it it sounds much cleaner and deeper. And I run the stock air filter as well.

Ill be making a box around mine

to make it get more cold air. check my video in signature to hear my roar. cant hear mine much these days with the flowmaster

do you guys with the v6 have the intake resonators on the intake tube?

Why not rip them off and get a 1inch PVC plug ( 1-2$ at a hardware store) to plug the hole?.

jakedrew...

did you ever remove the resonator from your intake ?

do you have pics ?

I only have a few little things and the exhaust and airbox mod is next.

15% tints / blue leds in dome, courtesy mirror lights and license plate/ 20k hids / aftermarket billet grill / rain guards

let me know if you can see those pics as to i cant figure out how to add a picture lol

you need to upload your pictures to a host such as imageshack.us

Also, please tell me how you replaced your dome lights. I can't seem to fit my fingers in there behind those plastic limiters!

no i never did. I just was asking about it one day . Cant see how this would hurt. Add a kn air filter and you got your self a better flowing intake THEN stock i think.

something that i was thinking about today was...

looking at the factory intakes from my old 03, and my current 05, when talking about the actual intake hose itself. the only real difference that i can see is the vaccum line port onthe tube.

" If standing at the front of your X, looking straight ahead... "

the 03 intake tube is on the right hand side, while the 05 is instead directly on top on the tube...

i dont see why we couldnt just find an 03 MAF, and buy a full K&N Intake, and just redirect the vaccum line to the side. but now without messing with the factory ( 04-05 ) airbox / maf, for elimination of the resonator, and loss of the restrictive tube. could we place an 03 k&n intake ( TUBE ) on there for smoother flow ???

now i just dont know if it would be cost effective for purchasing the part. thats the only down side...

im going to give K&N a call to see if it would be possible to purchase just the intake tube, or if i would just have to buy the kit...

just sent a nice long detailed Email to their Tech Center...

and will call in the morning...

I Emailed K&N Filters yesterday and got this response back...

Thank you for your interest in K&N products. I would think it is possible to do produce an intake system using the stock factory air box because we have done this with the Toyota Tundra (http://www.knfilters.com/instructions/57-9027_inst.pdf). You can purchase just the tube only from K&N directly by contacting Customer Service. As for your last question, we cannot answer whether or not it will work. If you would like to request product to be built for your application, please click the link below. You will also be notified when something comes out. If you have any further questions, please call our Customer Support Team at 1(800)858-3333.
