Customize my KKM?

I already have the KKM intake. I was thinking about getting a cold air kit from something else and then attaching it to my KKM adapter, then running the tubing down into the fender like the Mustang Cold air kits. I found this one for an Acura that looks like it would give me all the bends I would need...

Go to an exhaust shop that can bend 3" tube (diesels use these alot) and make your own. You can take them a coat hanger bent into the desired shape you are looking for and they will work with you.

Here's what I did on my 93 OHV 4.0L
bolted KKM on to the end of my 70 mm Granatelli MAS
Used a 95 style intake tube, from Ford Aerostar or Ranger I believe
This put the KKM right behind my pass side headlight
I re-located my battery to accomodate the new filter location.
I then cut a4" dia hole in my radiator support, right where the factory intake used to be
Then I ran a 4" dryer hose right up to the filter
Now I am working on a fiberglass shroud to seperate the filter from the heat generated under the hood.
Another step for asetup like this wouldbe to add a scoop in the hood or a funnel behind the grill

Search around you can find all kinds of homebuilt cold air intakes, I will get some pics of mine someday.....
 






the only thing to keep in mind when doing something like this is to be aware of the suceptibility (sp?) of water to get sucked in. it HAS happened many times to many people and you can either get lucky with it, or you can get really unlucky with it.
 






If you hook up an OBD II scanner to your truck and monitor IAT, you will see for yourself that the temp is just a few degrees higher than ambient at speeds over 40 MPH.

There is simply no need to worry about cold air. I did the testing in my quest for better gas mileage.
 






Also consider the heat that will be retained in the metal intake pipe. If you have an extremly restictive intake pipe, which the Explorer doesn't, then metal may be a good trade off, but it is not generally a good change.
 












Good data, thanks, I will kick this idea arround untill I don't want to do it anymore. I was just wanting to keep cool air in the motor.
 












Well, I am sure mine isn't that much differen't than the tested one.

As far as my idea, I am always thinking of different stuff I could do and kick them arround untill I don't want to do them anymore.

I appericate your info on the temp and was just saying that I don't really need to do this mod just thinking about things to do differently.
