Do a search for SWISS CHEESE mods and you will find the reasons.

This works pretty good but is no comparison to a good intake kit like MAC or Volant. For about $30 it is a good upgrade.

Make sure you buy a K&N filter to get the maximum benefit and clean your MAF sensors while you have it out.

I suggest that you cut on the front portion of the box off and NOT swiss cheese it. You'll be sucking in hot engine air. But thats just my .02.

I agree with just cutting the front part off. You'll get more cool air in which is better than exhaust temp. air

I agree with the above posts, I just recently did this and drilled 1/2" holes in the thing. First off the plastic is very hard and kind of shatters when you drill it leaving a huge mess. Second I had to cover up some holes with duck tape because I drlled them in the side and back of the box. If I had it to do over again I would just cut out the front of the box leaving a 1" border around it.

Could anyone post any pics on where to cut it at? I think I know where but I want to be safe.

What does a 92 air box look like? Most likely possible, got pics?

looks like a box thats the best way i can decribe it sorry i tryd it seems to work u can hear the air getting sucked in

This should be evident but...if your going to swiss cheese your airbox...make sure you only drill holes on the bottom side of the box, or below where the filter rests. If not, you filter would be useless and your intake would be sucking in dirty air. Whether you cut a hole in the front, or drill holes throughout the bottom is up to you, the purpose is to allow more air flow. Like stated above though, unless your running a high flow filter like K&N or similar your not going to be doing much good.
Of course, if your going to run a aftermarket filter, you might as well do it right and get an open element filter and just do away with the airbox all together IMO.

Also if your going to introduce better airflow...you should also think about getting a less restrictive exhaust. Intake and exhaust kind of go hand in hand...alone, neither will make that great of a difference...but together, custom intake and exhaust are probably the two best (cheapest) performance mods you can do for a vehicle.

Pic of mine with KKM intake. Notice I left as much of the stock box as I could to protect the filter from engine heat...as well as introducing cold air to the filter via the 3" blue hose you see feeding in from the bottom.

Another improvment on the Swiss Cheese is to cut the entire circular thingy around the filter out leaving just the mounts for the tupe to hold the filter through a K&N filter inb and you have a Custom k&M air intake plus if you painted it a cool color it would be sweet too.

is cutting a hole bad, because it would let water in when it's raining, etc? and soaking the filter

i liek to go muddin so if i cut the front of the airbox out wont water and mud get in there easier.

thats what i've been wondering....

When I did my Airbox mod, before getting the real Intake Kit, I removed the silencer from the front of the airbox and drilled another hole the same size beside of the original hole which gave it twice the airflow and would be more than the size of the intake tube and that worked really well. That doesn't let any more moisture in than the original setup and the only way the filter would get really wet was if you submerged the front of the airbox under water in which case it wouldn't matter if you had holes in the airbox or not, you'd get water in the filter. It made me want the real intake setup even more so if you do it go ahead and start saving the money for the real thing cause it won't be long till you'll make the next step. :)
