am installing an Auburn Ected in my Dana 35 with 27 spline axles. I got a D35 rebuild kit and starting assembling when I found out that the carrier bearings wont fit on the Auburn Carrier. They are two small!! Anybody else have this problem? I see on the Auburn website they list the bearings that must be used with thier carriers, But the D30 and D35 are new and not listed! What bearing numbers did you guys use???

Didnt know they made a auburn etech for the d35 reverse rotation. Maybe thats your problem, wrong locker?

I spoke with Auburn before I bought it, They said it would work in a front or rear application and was listed for the 91-94 Sploder. The reverse ring gear fits like a glove but the bearings are too small. On thier website they list carrier bearings but since the D35 is new it is not yet listed and of course they wont be open until Monday!

do you mean they need to be pressed on to the locker?

bearings will never just 'slip on' a carrier, you will need to have them pressed on.

Do not use a hammer
Do not use heat/cold

use a press

Yes they need to be pressed on....But they are too small anyway. The inside diameter of the bearing was 1.623" and the outside of the carrier was 1.785".

hrmm thats a pretty big difference. .160" almost...

i got a spare dana35 carrier and bearings at the house, when i get off work ill try and remember, and ill go measure them up for ya.

I verified that the bearings that came with the rebuild kit are the same part number that that came factory on the stock carrier. Something is different about the Auburn unit...I guess I will find out tommorow!

1.627" is what i measured for the stock dana 35 carrer.

Thanks for the info! I spoke with Warlord over at Broncoii.org. He said that when he set up a detroit in a D35 one time, It was a Super 35 with 30 spline axles, and it used different bearings than stock, even though the race was still the same size. Im sure Auburn will tell me that I need a different bearing and should be no problem.

SInce I guess I am the first one with an Ected in my D35, I will post what I find out tommorow since I am sure that others will run into this problem later!

dude, your axle shafts are 27 spline, if you use the 30 spline unit, are you going to get custom axle shafts?

if the bigger bearing takes bigger races, will it fit into the housing?

if you go as far as 30 spline shafts, you HAVE to get dana 44 knuckles to make it all worth-while =)

On the part about 27 spline shafts....I am using the 27 spline shafts and carrier. I just mentioned the Detroit and Super 35 with 30 spline shafts as a reference to when the stock bearings didnt fit. Warlord mentioned this about an XJ he did.

As for as the bearings go... I spoke with Auburn today, they gave me the right part numbers and I went down to autozone and got them. They list for a 2003 trailblazer. Bigger inside hole, smaller but more rollers and the same outside race. Looks like they should work just fine.

As a side note, I looked up the bearing numbers...Looks like there are a few Detroit, Auburn and Eaton diffs that all use different bearings that stock. I guess I learned quite a bit!

Tahnks for the help guys!
