I ended up doing a lot of research about interchangeability of carriers and gears between rangers and explorers for the D35. Turns out basically all inner gear kits (side gears, spider gears and pins) are interchangeable between all Dana 35 from 1991-94 1/2 explorers and rangers built between 1990-1997 1/2, the only exception to this are D35 from certain rangers built between 1997 and 1997 1/2, if your front axle has a bill of materials that matches, 610652-1, 610652-2, 610652-3, 610652-4, the side gear shaft (the part that fits in the carrier) has an outer diameter that is smaller than all other bills of materials. Ring gears and pinions are all compatible. So I'll end up having to remove the ring gear from the ranger carrier and put it on my explorer's carrier in order to have the proper diameter for the side gears.
This is the Dana/Spicer catalogue and technical specs for ford lightduty axles, all the information needed is there if you ever have any problems with compatibility.

BTW can anyone confirm if any D35 carrier will fit any D35 housing? I'm pretty sure but I'm wondering if the carrier with can change and require different shims for the carrier bearings. If anyone has extra info I'd appreciate it!!!
