Damn does my truck suck...

Welp... I found out tonight how slow my v8 is... i raced another X tonight on DPA (231) for those of you from NY and Long Island u know what that is.. but anyway i raced 2 times with him.. once while rolling.. and i kept up with him.. and it was a dead race... and onec from a light... we were even agin.. but he was pulling away from me a little... It was a v6.. dohc? i think... all i know is that thing reved to the sky... i was in third gear and he was just changing from 1st to second.... after our second race we rolled next to eachother and we were talking... all he has is a K&N and a chip... would that make that much of a dif? i mean come on... i have a v8 =P i know those trucks are only like 10 hp less then my truck... but then agin.. the chip and the k&n would make it even... oh well... time for me to spend some $$ =P

are you sure it was a 95-96? Was it possibly a 97? They look the same, had the SOHC as an option and would have beaten you with just a few mods.
 






Ya it might have been a 97... im upset =[ so sad =P i bet he gets more them 15mpg too! damn it.. why didnt i look into my truck a little more before i bought it =[
 






Hmm let's see.......yours can tow WAY more than his, the motor will last WAY longer, and the tranny is 10 times stronger than his.

Plus, the V8 sounds damn good.......:D

was it a sport or a 4 door? what gears do you have? ive raced 2 X's i work with. a 96 V8 2wd just like mine (with no mods) and pulled him 2 car lengths 3 times. the other was a sport with SOHC. he was a little tougher. less weight and 4:10's. got me off the line 1/2 length and then i cought him and beat him BARELY 1 car length both times. man i was worried. a SOHC sport with 4:10's will suprise you. but, you've got more torque, and nothing sounds like a 5.0 with exhuast. and you can beat the hell out of the motor and it will still last forever.
 






it was a 4door... im not shure what gears i have,.,, i need to check... i think i have a LS rear and im not 2xd... i have awd... and i also had a full tank of gas =P so that didnt help
 






sounds like he was shifting it manually. did you try and race with yours in drive? that makes a difference. whenever i race someone i shift manually to get the extra rpm that the auto shifts out. also i have a 97 SOHC that i will sell u :D
 






What the hell is DPA? I'm from LI and don't know exactly what that is, and I'm do lazy to go look at a map. I'm getting mine regeared with 3.73LS in a few weeks to get better off the line (got a manual tranny) but the big difference will come when in about a year I attempt to put in one of these:Dead Link Removed
I went to this shop in queens today and snapped this photo of a DOHC 3.0 V6 twin turboed and twin intercooled. The guy said he was very interested in building me one too since I told him that I've never heard of a turbo put in an X.
 






Oh yeah, btw, the motor is from a Ford Taurus SHO and it's stuffed in a rwd Merkur XR4Ti (European Ford Sierra) and will put out some stupid HP
 






I feel your pain, I have a kkm and flowmaster 50 muffler and thats it for "hp mods" techically I think this stuff does exactly jack to GAIN power.. infact I tihnk I lost some power with it.

at any rate, being able to stay beside them is even unacheivable to me.. I have a "killed by" list that includes things like expeditions suburbans even a mid 90s oldsmobile and an old lady in a cadillac! for christ sake my dad's towncar is faster than my mounty. I have the 3.73 LSD rear too.. you'd think that'd help alittle right?

I've been dealing with ford on this at least once a month.. every time I take it in they tell me its normal and I'm asking too much from it, the ford technician tells me its the 4R70W basically being a POS transmission.. I find this hard to beleive since tons of F-150s use it and probablly expeditions too. So what if they have .4L more engine than me :P
 






darkfox, have you tried the throttle cable fix? i know when i got mine a year ago it felt really slow at wide open throttle. get a friend to hold the gas pedal to the floor (with the engine off.) take the intake tube off of the throttle body. look at the butterfly. is it open all of the way? mine would only open to about 75% at wide open throttle. there is slack in the cable. pull the slack out of the cable were it attaches to the pedal linkage (under the dash on the firewall.) this little mod made all the difference in the world on mine at wide open throttle. when you pull the slack out, rap a zip tie around the end of the cable. or, i have heard of people using the little round lead fishing weights.
 






wouldn't there be more signs and/or the dealership would notice this? I've been recommended this before, but I've been told by my dealership that my throttle body "looks fine" based on the fact however that my dealership uses the "thats fine" method with me every time I bring it in.. I really dont know if I should trust their word.

I'm alittle hesitant to mess with the throttle body based on the fact that I do still have some sort of warranty.. would doing such a trick void it?

btw, I'm not sure I understand the fishing weight/zip tie thing, how would you secure the slack? with this?
 












ya that looks fine to me... btw guys i have 3.73 gears... and i still suck off the mine... i think my tranny is ****ed up.. can as the days go by i feel my truck getting slower and slower... =P that may have somthing to do with my truck being just over a year old and having 26k on it and every mile of that has been the truck getting the balls beat off it =P maybe i can blow the tranny to get a new one =P err did i say that?

from what i can tell yours is normal. if it is "****ed" all the way open, then it is getting true wide open throttle. yours looks like it is. mine however, was not. this made a huge difference with mine. i dont know if they stretch over time, or if ford just hap-hazardly made some of them that way. im thinking now that some just stretch over time...
