Hey all...been fighting this sob spindle for about an hour and it's not budging. I called around the parts stores and of course half of them didn't know what a spindle puller was or didnt have one in stock.

I have the rotors and everything off. I want to see if this idea will work. Get a gear puller, put the spindle nuts back on (butted up against each other to spread the load), put the puller around the nuts and tighten it up against the shaft untill she breaks free. As far as I can tell this would do the exact same job as a spindle puller tool. I can also use a chisel and loads of PBLaster to help break it free...

Yall think this might work?

Thanks

might werk..... i just pound the old stud's out then beat the livin fawk outta the spindle with a 2x4 and a small sledge

I've beat the living hell outa it with a heavy rubber mallet, the studs aren't even touchin the spindle...damn thing

nope rubber mallets are useless.... u need brute shock force = a solid piece of wood held to the top of the spindle then strike it as hard as possible REPEATEDLY

an air chisel kin also help alot

mallet work on one side..this one is just being an anigaV

i have removed alot of spindles.... i know they kin be a pain.

had to do it to a few D44s, make sure the backing plate is off, put nuts back on the studs to protect the studs, take 2lb sledge and whack the studs back, and then take off the nuts and studs,.... most likely the spindle will be rusted on, put back on both spindle nuts and lock em against each other, i used a 2 jaw puller, but make sure the lips of the jaw are against the spindle nut(and make sure not against any fine threads), then tighten up with a ratchet till it feels tight, take block of wood and put against the spindle so the wood is parallel to the floor, and about 2 good whacks with a metal sledge should show a small gap betwen the spindle and knucle, then repeat on the bottom of it, tighten up the gear puller more, and repeat process, and it should pull off

when reassembling id put a thin layer of antisieze on the spindle mount surface to the knuckle so its easier to pull off later

Yep i got her. I used a ball pein hammer and a chisel and after a few hard whacks i got her off...not I can continue the tear down :D

Usually a big flathead screwdriver that you dont care about inbetween the edge of the spindle and the knuckle and a hammer pops them right off. :)
