My son has a leak in the AC of his 97 4wd XLT. I've tried to run down the leak, but have had no luck so far. Worse, my wife's 99 Volvo has a leak in the evaporator. Since that's about $1100 to fix, I just refill it. Whenever either one quits cooling, I add a couple of 12 oz. cans of r134. I recently bought a manifold gauge set and a 30lb can of r134 ($79 at Autozone, but I heard Sam's Club has it for less than $70.), but don't know how to go about putting in the proper amount. The instructions tell how to check the static and dynamic pressure, but not how to properly charge the system. Please pass on any advice or where to look for this information. As always, thanks in advance.

You actually need a scale when you are dealing with the 30lb cylinder. I use cans and a digital diet scale to get the exact amount within an oz or so.

Something like this would be nice too, not bad considering places want $150 to do any type of A/C diags/recharge.

take the a/c system to court and charge it with leaking and murder of the a/c compressor. no no no jk this is a task for a licenced certified technician.

a/c charge

I got the same problem. LEAK. I refill mine to about 45 lbs low side guage pressure while a/c is running. The outside temp is about 80 degrees. You could very it a few but not a lot higher. If it is undercharged, the airflow will decrease after a while (half hour) due to freezing. Turn your a/c to vent and it will thaw it out in short order. Then you can go back to a/c. I live in Florida and it's HOT. USA is the greaters.:us::thumbsup:

Do you have a vacuum pump?
