I put a sony head deck in my 1991 explorer around christmas. I had to cut the dash, I got fed up at looking at the cut dash so I got a new dash piece at the junk yard. Can someone help me by telling how to get the stereo in without cutting the dash??????

What size sony do you have? I have a sony and I didn't have to cut anything, I have a 92" Xplor is the dash different?

1. Pull out the ash tray (push down the tiny little metal tab) right above it to unlock and pull it out)

2. Get a small ratchet set and unscrew the two screws holding the ash tray receiver in, and pull that out. You can let both parts just hang there for the rest for the installation.

3. It might help you to move the steering wheel position lower to remove the dash. It will also help you if you put the shifter in the bottom most position.

4. Slowly start from the bottom areas of the dash (like around the ash tray and the headlight knob) and slowly pull. It connected to the car in the similar fashion as door panels, so they should "pop" out when you pull.

5. Towards the top of the front dash part, pull slowly, but don't pull too far, as you will need to disconnect the plugs behind the 4x4 and low range buttons.

6. Wiggle the dash over and off the steering colum and you should be all set.

I'm prettysure that's it, but if I missed anything, someone will add info to help you out.

Good luck, Jon
