Dead battery and chip that is in key?

This is my sister in laws truck. She was telling me that if they remove the battery, it will mess up the chip that is in the key and the truck will not start if they change it? I never heard this before. Can't they just change the battery? Does this have anything to do with the chip that is in the key? Thanks for the help.

The battery in the truck if removed or dies, will not effect the PATS system.

I never had a problem swapping batteries in my '98 or '06.

Shes wrong, you can pull the battery out left and right and not affect the PATS system. Just had mine in and out the other day doing the big three.

Thanks for the info! I told her it has nothing to do with the chip that is in the key.
