Hey Paul.
I have removed the door-panels before, and just so you know, those panels are held in ther with some rather large PUSH-CLIPS up underneath the panel. There is an actual tool that you can use that is make specifically for prying off the Door Trim.

I used it... and the reason for it is just to get leverage (instead of using a screwdriver which can possibly scratch a little paint and also the Door Panel) and also so you don't break any of the clips.
However, first things first:
1.) Remove the small piece that's just behind the handle (it's in the shape of a square and has about a rounded 90deg. angle in it), this can be done with a screwdriver.
2.) There should be two-screws right underneath the handle on the door so remove those next.
3.) Remove the Arm-rest and the controls that attach to the arm-rest (there should be two-screws that attach the controls).
3.) Pry those clips from the door (with the panel removal tool, which I would recommend). This step might take the most time. When you get all the clips pryed away from the door, lift up on the panel to pick it up over the lip up by the window and set the entire panel aside.
4.) There should now be a large WHITE (usually) piece of plastic and this is the water-shield. Carefully pull it back, not necessarily all the way off, but jut to get it out of your way.
5.) You should now be able to easily see the speaker housing and how to remove it is just by a few screws.
NOW, TO TEST THE SPEAKER.
Either remove the (supposed) slide-clips from the speakers and have two-pieces of wire in your hand and a 9volt battery or just disconnect the leads up by the head unit and have the 9volt in your hand (this may be less reliable because of the wire going all the way back there). When you touch the + and - to the corresponding side of the battery, you should hear a small POPPING sound from your speaker. If you HEAR it, "It's working." If no POP, "It's not working."
I hope the forumers here can agree with this way of testing, though, my little "SPEAKER POPPING" method isn't the best, but it was recommended by another guy.
Hope this helps you out.
