Ok well here is the situation. My driver side speaker is not working all the time. It comes on and off but I have not found any thing that makes it go off. it just does it on its own. I tried jiggling the wires but when the car is parked it always seems to play. I have aftermarket speakers in the front doors. I have pioneer 6x8 3 ways. I have a pioneer deh p3900mp head unit. When i bought the head unit off the internet, it came with a black box thing that intercepts the wires in between the head unit and the speakers. the black box has adjustments on it for each of the speakers.

about a month ago, i noticed my driver speaker wasnt playing. but i found out that it is actually playing very quietly. so i pulled out the head unit to see if i could find something. i got to the black box and i turned down all of the other speakers, and they played at the same volume as my driver side. so this led me to believe that the black box is broken. does any one know what this is and what does it do?

after that i wanted to see if my speaker was blown so i skipped over the black box and the speaker played fine. so i left it that way. but it is actually louder than my passenger door speaker.

so now I am trying to figure out what is wrong and what is broken. Where would i get one of those black box things?

also, as it is set up right now, when the driver speaker goes out, i turn up the volume and then the speaker starts working and i can then turn it down. it works for a while then goes out again.

Please help me figure out what is wrong with my stereo. I cant go much longer with no music!!!! :p: Thanks for yalls help.

It sounds like you pegged the problem with the black box thing. Don't know what that is, never seen one or heard of one though. Did you call Pioneer? They can probably give you more info on what exactly it is and sell you another one if need be. Personally I would just pop that box open and see what doesn't look right inside and go to town on it :D. Can't hurt and you already know that it isn't necessary to make the speakers actually play as you can bypass it.

yea the black box thing is part of the problem. I found out what it is though and just incase anyone ever has this problem, it makes the head unit amp compatible with the car amp. My car has an amp in it already because i had the supreme package or what ever. i found one at walmart for like $18 so i am going tonight to buy it. but the other part of the problem i havent figured out exactly yet. i am hoping it is bad wires so i am gonna re wire that speaker tonight. but it still makes me wonder why i have to turn it up to make the speaker play. i hope it isnt my head unit. has any one had the same problem where you had to turn it up to make it come on and once it is on you can turn it down?

well now that i think about it, it is probably the wires because the speaker would do the same thing before i had the head unit or after market speakers. so lets hope that is the only problem :D
