death rattle HELP!!

i have just noticed the "death rattle" and i went to a shop and had a guy my dad knew from a ford dealership look at it for free and he quoted around 2,000 dollars for a new "kit", and installation. he said for it being a 97' just get a new truck, but im not gonna do that cus its my first car bought from my summer job. i plan to run it till gets really bad. What do you guys think would be the best and cheapest place to get a new engine.
Im just gettin myself prepared for engine failure or until i cannot deal with the noise anymore.

i will probably look at this so many times i will memorize it.haha i am dreading this problem!! the last thing i want to do it pull an engine out but its pretty much my only choice
