- 1999 Ford Explorer XLT
Hello all,
I am requesting assistance with an issue I have. I recently found out that my 1999 Ford Explorer 4.0 SOHC has a timing chain issue. A mechanic listened to it and indicates that the timing chain needs to be corrected. Now, we discussed options, and here they are.
1. Drive it to the nearest graveyard and bury it.
2. Purcase another engine from the junk yard and then sell it.
3. Rebuild or have the engine remanufactured(this is actually my idea)
The mechanic called me today and states that these engines are a pain to deal with. He has no problem with pulling the engine out. However he has a friend who has been rebuilding engines for over 15 years, that states it's not worth it. He said that his friend does not have Ford's repair info for this vehicle and that the slightest mistake could cause the engine to fail again.
Does anyone know how to obtain the Ford info to correctly rebuild this engine.(something about cams and settings).
Me personally love my truck and wonder if Its possible to rebuild the engine without future issues down the road.
Input is greatly appreciated.
Yours Truly
Jay
