Determining a blown head gasket

Now I KNOW I've seen this topic on here before, but I've been searching for about an hour, and I CANNOT find it! One of the main symptoms of a blown head gasket is antifreeze/water puking out of the radiator. My question is, is it when you START the truck, or TURN IT OFF? Might be a silly question, but I'm still having trouble with my ride, would like to figure it out soon!!!
