I just talked to a specialty performance shop around me and he suggested the Diablo superchip. He says they increase the HP and Torque by a full 20% and improve the shift points.

Has anyone here used them? Is he telling the truth or feeding me bull.... plus the price was high... near $500

How do they compare to the others?

I was thinking 20 % of stock is a 44 lbs torque and 32 HP. For $500, ya can't really beat it.

There is no way you will get a 32HP gain from just a chip on the OHV 4.0L. $500 is also way higher than what I have typically seen the Diablo Sport go for. It is about on par with the SuperChip which retails for about $245. It can be purchased for less than $200 if you look around. C&D did an interesting write-up a couple of months ago, testing 5 or 6 vehicles with 4 or 5 different chips. The cars that made the most improvement were Supercharged and turbocharged with automatic transmissions. The chip can bump up the boost and when coupled with quicker/firmer shifts can make a dramatic improvment. Next were normally aspirated cars with an automatic. They gained a couple of tenths in the 1/4 mile. Last on the list were the normally aspirated, manual transmission cars. They saw little to no gain with a chip. I think the chips they tested were Diablo, Superchip, Hypertech and Jet. They Diablo and Hypertech came out on top.

That being said, I have a Superchip on my SOHC Explorer and can definately feel the difference it made. It doesn't take as much pedal pressure to get the same acceleration. Downshifts are quicker and to the proper gear and are much firmer. I would recommend one to anyone that is looking for a little more performance. I also put a Superchip on my 4.0L OHV Ranger with a manual transmission and felt it was a complete waste of money. I think if you have an automatic, you might like the results. If you have a manual, you probably won't. I believe the Superchip and Diablo are pretty much identical chips. If you get one, look around for a much better price than $500 and make sure it has a 30 day money back gaurantee incase you aren't happy with it.

The $500 price is somewhere out in left field... look around, you can indeed beat that.

A gain of 32 HP is a bit of a pipe dream too, my friend.

Chips do work wekk in auto trans trucks...

You should talk to troll or his brother, they sell diablo chips. He will tell you everything you need to know.

Diablo Chip

Yeah Troll does sell them, but he wants to sell the Diablo chip for a prie around 270 or something, when u can snag one for $190.00. $500.00 is WAAAY to much money!!!!

I can't get ahold of Troll... Does anyone know how much better diablo is than Superchip or any other brand? Thanks for any help.

Diablo Chip

Hey,
First, go to www.Diablosport.com and check out the chip. THey have a couple articles about what people are saying about the chip... sounds pretty hot. Secondly, decided to order one last night and i ordered it from www.smartyparts.com. Only $190.00 plus $5.00 shipping, unless you want the premium shipping which costs $15.00. Troll sells them for alot more... and the smartyparts.com site says that the chip they sell IS the diablo chip. So anyways ill let u know how it is when i get it.
As for the superchip vs. the Diablochip, i have read numerous places that they are comparable in performance. One article on the mustangweekly site i think it was, rated the hypertech and diablo chip above the performance of the superchip and of course the (jet chip <-- not so hot).... anyways, from what i hear the Diablo chip sounds like it will provide your explorer with significant gains.

Thanks for the info. When are you supposed to get yours? Let me know after you have it on. I haven't been able to talk to anyone who has put it on an X, so I'm anxious to hear what you have to say. PM me or relpy to this post. I want to buy one ASAP, but I feel like I'm going in blind.
