I have today suddenly developed a nasty creaking sound from the n/s front wheelarch area........

when at low speed and also when static when turning the steering wheel it is really quite loud. At speed it seems to almost disappear.

I dont think its the shock because it doesn't wallow and hasn't dropped at all, but a bounce while static produces the creak.

I have a drive back home tomorrow from east anglia to wales (260 miles) so am trying to find a garage at mo to check it out, but wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction so i can get under and have a look myself........ times like these i hate being a mechanical numpty!

anything i should check?????

ps it may be a clue, but intermittently i used to get a similar creak for a second or two when turning right at low speed..............

update!

just had it up on ramp at local garage, nothing apparent wrong, and rear end squeaking too on compression!

mechanic reckons that the salt, wet and grit that we've experienced recently has dried out and the noises are due to dry bushes and pivot points!

if he's right how do I rectify the problem???????????????????? some light oil or silicone sprayed liberally round all rubbers and pivot points??
