Hi Folks, I have my explorer going good & on the road now , the problem I have is with the air conditioning & heater, I had no vacume to the dash because the vacume lines were blocked where the lines go through the fire wall, I have replaced the lines & have vacume back to the plug near the controls but still not working, I can get hot air to the windscreen defrost & can udjust the heat from cool to hot, but nothing coming from the vents, can anyone help me out with a diagram of the lines & vacume units that operate the vents under the dash. I can find pictures of heater & air controls but they are different to my unit I have put up a picture of my control, one of the buttons reads, ( eng/met ) is that the same as outside temp which seems to be on most of the control that I can see online Thank you.
  • ENG: Controls the fan speed
  • MET: Controls the air distribution

Here is what I have, the climate control section of a '99 workshop manual, which does include a diagram for the EATC automatic climate control, starting on page 6. PDF attached. There might also be some useful troubleshooting steps in it.

If you have a leak anywhere and loss of vac, it will default to defrost. I vaguely even recall some people having a problem with the head unit (that you pictured) itself, that there are some o-ring seals in it that can start to leak and could need replaced, but I would look elsewhere before taking the head unit apart. There may be a topic or two in this forum where someone has pictures of taking the head unit apart and replacing those o-ring seals.

Thank you very much, just what I needed, I can start looking for the problem now knowing where every thing is located & how it is supposed to work. greatly appreciated.
