Did 91-94 explorers come with 8.8's and if so did they have posi's?? Would this be a direct bolt in to a early 90s ranger???

I believe the early 90's rangers with 4.0s came with an 8.8.... not sure though

My 92 has a 8.8 but I dont think they came posi, only limited slip.I am not sure about the rangers,I think the splines are different in the rangers:)

All Explorers came with 31 spline 8.8" axles setup for a spring under axle.

All Rangers with the 4.0L came with 28 spline 8.8" axles (until the FX4) setup for spring over axle. All Ranger 8.8" came with drums.

The 91-94s Explorer rears had drum brakes.

To swap an Explorer rear in, it would be best to find one from a 95-01 to get the disc brakes. Either way you will have to weld new spring perches on top of the axle and weld on new shock mounts.

The gear ratio and if it had a L/S was not pre-determined, meaning there is no pattern to which vehicles came with them or not.

I believe that the limited slip was only available with 3.73 and lower (higher number) ratios and maybe only available in the 3.73 rear. I have not heard of anything, but a 3.73 rear getting the limited slip, but I could be wrong. If I am, let me know :)
