98 explorer sport
Be honest now, I've been going back and forth on deciding whether or not to buy one. I have a 98 ohv sport and for that specific model I only get about 5 hp!? That alone is not worth 200 bucks, but with gas prices going over 3 dollars out here in southern ca, im getting killed. Help me out here guys, did you get a noticable change in mpg with ur intake (preferrably K&n). Please help!!! thanx

Between k&n intake, exhaust, and acetone i've seen a jump of 5mpg. Sorry I dont have more specific data to pinpoint which was most effective.

Acetone ??

I saw about a 3-4 mpg increase when i put a k&N intake and filter on my sport, it has the OHC engine though. My filter was pretty dirty too, so some of it was probably that though.......

What diameter is the piping on the K&N setup ??

MAC didn't do much but make my foot go closer to the floor. What a sound! :D

Yeah the sound at WOT makes it almost worth the investment alone...almost.

mine helped. between regearing for my 32's and the intake it jumped 4-5 mpg

In my `92 I was getting 15.1-16.3 w/ mixed driving, and my foot 'in it' all the time.....I have an i-fab intake, BBK throttle body, and 2.5" Cat-back exhaust, with Edelbrock RPM Muffler, and now I get right @ 20mpg.....if I kept my foot out of it, I could get a little more, like 21-22.....but I can't say for sure, as I can't keep my foot out of it! lol

Hope this helps....

Another thing that you SHOULD do, and that is next on my list, is a chip....they have 'economy' programs for them, as well as performance.

Now that I think about it, when I was installing my intake i could have gotten my MAF pretty dirty, I set it on the grass while trying to get those bolts off. I'm gonna clean it to see if that makes a difference in MPG.

Seems Like I Get Worst Mpg

I just modified the airbox and put a k&n in and noticed a 1-2 MPG increase if I keep my foot out of it. The sound is great though so a lot of times, it's worse because i like to hear it.

thanks!

thanks for the input everyone, this definetly makes my decision easier! i hope this helps others who had the same question.

I'll let you know what happens to mileage when you get rid of one. I just sold my KKM, & removed my BBK Throttle Body, and still need to drive the X 'til i trade it in later this month.

The poor girl knows i'm getting rid of her - she's been trying to get me to change my mind by giving me 14-15mpg combined city/hwy. I've never averaged better than 12.

I got an immediate 1.5 mpg increase with my MAC intake and a negligible gain with the Flowmaster catback.

i got about 1-2 with the KKM. now i'm up to around 12 MPG.
it does make a nice sound..or it did back when i could hear it over the exhaust.
