Im trying to use some of my wiring harness to keep everything working with the key but i cant seem to find a good diagram of what two wires i need to jump to let the starter ingage with the key iv already moved the worm gear in ignition and removed the shifter and got all the other stuff lined out just struggling to trac down right wires to make starter work if someone could point me in the right direction i would realy appreciate it this has been a long thought out process and should have all my drivetriin this weekend

01-05 explorers have pats keys
You gave us zero details to work with

Its a 05 with the 5r 55e transmission harness. Im putting a Mercedes diesel with a 5 speed out of a 97 f150 into it just trying to figure out if theres a wire i can jump to get the starter to ingage so i dont have to run a push button the key deal i moved the gear so i could keep the auto calumn and keep it in park position and still b able to drive without it locking up. If u need more info ask away this is got me stumped im assuming its tied into the transmission wiring if im wrong please point me in the right direction and ill do some more research and try figuring it out just trying to keep it as clean as possible thanks

The starter is run by a relay in the power dist box
relay #14
ground circuit 86 on that relay
should be a dark blue with orange wire

this is the wire the PCM grounds to allow the starter to run with the stock ignition switch

You can find that wire at pin 28 on your 42 pin plug C110
Ground it on the PCM side of things, see if the starter runs
MAKE SURE YOUR NOT IN GEAR!!

Can we get some pics and more details of this conversion? the more info you post the easier it is to help you..... plus I am WAY into drivetrain conversions and a benzo diesel 5 speed in a 05 trac makes me happy

Hey i really appreciate that info i will check that out tonight and yeah if people are interested ill try to get some pics and go into alil more detail on what all iv had to do and fab up to make things work iv bout got the motor back together and started fabbing my motor mounts so i plan on getting all that in the truck this weekend im just hoping iv juiced up that lil 5 cyl turbo enough to push that truck but iv cut alot of weight off the sport trac so only time will tell. Once again i really appreciate your help and interest in my project

yeah buddy! 5 cyl diesel in a sport trac........ yeah we are interested!
I know of a few other diesel sport tracs
Turbo diesel for the WIN!!!!!!!!

No luck on the grounding wire bout to just give up on that and run a push button

The starter is not going to just run because you ground the relay
It still needs to see the neutral safety circuit and get the correct signal from the ignition switch
So you can wire up the starter to a push button no problem, you want to wire up the starter relay to work the starter.

You said you mounted the old steering column so the key is in it and it remains in park
that has nothing to do with the neutral safety anymore because:
1. The old engine computer was the pats computer. Having the key in the old column does nothing for you now, you have already removed the PATS system.

2. The old 5r55e transmission had the NSS switch on the side of it
Nothing is in the steering column anymore but the ignition switch
The neutral safety circuit is left completely unhooked by removing the 5r55e automatic

My guess is you still need to wire up the NSS circuit where the old auto trans used to be....you should route it through the 3 pos clutch switch so you cannot run the starter without the clutch depressed

Yeah i figured id still need to find which wires are the nss and jump them or do what your saying and run them to clutch but i have no idea which ones they are...im assuming its in the 12 plug on the trans wiring but cant seem to track down the diagram i need for it im pretty good with the fab and mechanic part of things but when it comes to these massive wiring harnesses and trying to thin them down i get alil overwhelmed but thats just part of it when u dive into a project like this but it will be well worth it in the end

Yeah iv been thinking about getting one but wasnt sure if that would have all the info i need. If your saying that book will answer all my ?s then ill prob get one but yeah if u get a chance to check your book on that nss switch id really appreciate it and then ill get one ordered so i can tie all my other stuff in later as i go along

Figured it out pin #10 and #12 tied together and the wire u told me to cut and ground it its spinning one more thing i can mark off the list now onto the temp gauge the sport trac uses a two pin plug the Mercedes uses a single wire fixing on doing alil research on them and fig that one out and the sport trac sensor is not threaded so cant just switch it out so hopefully i can find one similar with the thread style and go that route...ill start posting all the good stuff once i get this wiring figured out and maybe give a run down of the simplified harness for someone else who might want to do a conversion similar to mine.

And does anyone know how the speedometer works on these do they run of the abs or ?? Will it still work without the pcm hooked up cause im eliminating the pcm if all possible so far i havent needed it hooked up for everything to work

just fig id get back on here it still is not done i got it all together and drove it some but decided to pull the motor and completely rebuild it and upgrade pump and turbo while i was at it. its been a struggle trying to find a shop that would do the machine work on block and heads but five months later I got it all back i got it all put back together other then the turbo giving me fits but got a guy getting it all lined out and custom piping so hopefully another week or two ill post some pics and vids and breakdowns for anyone who might b crazy enough to do this kind of swap lol

This is interesting for sure. I have done a 5.0l Ranger i have always thought about putting a 4 cylinder diesel in my B3000 just so its different. Good luck with the project man i hope it goes well. 410 has alot of great info and seem to "actually" know what he is talking about and not google searching.
