I was at the used parts yard today looking for an 8.8 with 4.10 gears,
they had one that came out of a v8 explorer but the guy said it wouldnt work in my truck,
what is the difference if any between the v6 and v8 rear ends?
or is there a difference between a 2 wheel drive and a 4 wheel drive rear end.
The truck im putting it in is a 2000 sohc 2wheeldrive.

thanks much.

The only difference i can think of would be the traction bars.

Ditto, the V8 rears had the extra suspension bar attachment. You can use any for the V6 trucks. I'd like to have that instead of the spare 98 V6 rear that I bought for the axles.

I just recently swapped my blown rear end out of my 02 Sport for the rear end out of a 98 Mountaineer without any issues. everything connected up the same and works fine

No V8's were made with 4.10 gears. I don't think it was even an option. Almost all Eddie Bauers with SOHC were 4.10 geared, that is where my front differential came from.

Ditto. You hit the nail on the head. The 4.10 only came with the 4.0 SOHC. It was standard in the Eddie Bauer 4-door 4x4s with the 4.0 SOHC, and the Sport 4x4s with the SOHC.

I didnt think they were different I was just going by what the guy was saying,
maybe the one with limited slip and 3.73's was out of the v8,
either way it will be better than open 3.55 I have now,
Im going to do the swap the weekend after christmas,

thanks much guys, i'll let you know how it turns out
