Ok, I've searched all over here and even at manufacturers websites and can't find this info.

Does anyone know the actual difference between a California emissions 4.0 OHV and a Federal (49 state) emissions one? 1996 year.

When I go to Rock Auto, they list two different camshafts based on whether it's California emissions or not. I would have guessed that, and assume there is slightly less duration (and perhaps lift) on the California cam. Where can I find the cam specs?

I'd also assume the tuning program is more conservative, but don't really care about that since I have a BamaChips tune.

Can't imagine there'd be much else different - does anyone here know?

Thanks!

in 1996 there was no difference

in 91-94 there were small differences, EGR being one of them

91 and 93 had no EGR LOL for some reason, unless you were in CA then it was equipped

In 96 there should be no differences OTHER then the computer tune
CA trucks sometimes have a slightly different (read Anemic) computer calibration

now this is not official info or anything, just knowledge I have gained by paying somewhat attention

Thanks for the info.

It is strange then though that both Rock Auto and Fast Parts Network list different cams for this application depending on whether it's California emissions or not.

I guess bottom line is that I'm thinking of putting in the 410 cam and wondering whether I'd see an even greater increase in performance since I would be replacing a Cal-spec cam. From everything I've read, it's a good mod either way.

there may be truth to that, the CA emissions vehicles may very well indeed have a diff cam and a diff computer tune to match... either way the 410 grind should still be a step up from stock, and the 422 will make it damn near impossible for you to pass CA emissions
