I'm not sure if theres a thread about this already, but I just thought I'd ask.

does anyone know what difference it makes having the subwoofers facing down
(like, into the box)
and having it facing forward
(facing out of the box like most normal speakers)

does it make difference to quality, clarity, distortion or is it mostly just for looks.

I'm thinking of building my own custom jvc sound box for the back of my ex.
and i'm not sure if i want to have the subs facing in or out, and I was just curious if it actually made a difference to the sound.

thankyou!

(I'll do a nice big writeup for the box build once I have everything I need to start :D )

I couldnt tell a differance in my explorer. Just do a phase shift on your deck. ;) Also, make sure the surround of the sub is not rubbing on the cutout. ;)

Eh, with my 15" Kicker L7s i didnt notice a difference, just took up more space, and had to re-route the wires, so i just flipped them back to the norm.

When i had my 97 taurus, and my first sub ever, an MTX Road Thunder 12 pushed by 250 watts, I flipped it, noticed a noticeable difference, sounded better, and a little louder.

Try it, see if it changed, then put it back if not lol.

It was a ***** todo that with my kickers, like 100lbs a sub haha

the difference is for the car acoustic, my sub hit harder when is facing up, in explorer for what i have read the best config is sub up port back on passenger side.

ahh okay.

Well at the moment I'm running a 1200watt cadence 12"sub
from a JVC amp.

(brought them both off ebay for $100aud :D)

but didnt really like the look of the face on the front of the sub.
so i just unscrewed it from the box it came in, mounted it reverse.
and welluh, looks heaps better.

(apparently you're supposed to run wires neg to pos and pos to neg to the amp, but i didnt really notice much difference, if anyone knows anything about this. please add to it)

but, I'm buying 2 jvc 12" subs this week so i can build a custom box to house it all in the back of the ex. (complete jvc setup, wicked)

and, yeah.. dont want to go building a custom box if its going to sound like ****.

depends on if the subwoofer is suiteable for down/up firing. Other than that down firing helps with crap not smashing into the subwoofer while cargo is around it.

Downfiring when done correctly can also lower the resonant frequency of the system, and add SPL in SOME cases.
