different top off side wishbone question

My tyre was in the same state, I did the lower wishbone rubber bushes (sod of a job) and replaced the lower ball joint as well (for the second time as I had done 35k miles since last doing it. It made the tyre inside shoulder worse ! (even after tracking twice).

So my plan is,

I've ordered new lower wishbones complete for both sides from American Car Commercial(very efficient and responsive and have a UK number to dial. for the first week I thought they were a UK based company) in the US, delivery in 3 days to the UK at a very good prices

I've also ordered new inner streering arms, new upper wishbones, anti-roll bar drop links and a new DPFE module).

If that lot does not fix my suspension and steering problems then I'll shell out for a new steering rack and get somone else to fit it (that is not a job I want to do twice in this life time).

Looks like another weekend under the EX :p:

cheers

Jim

Hmmm E bay balljoints for that money, they cant be made for that can they? I will go for a pair of moog like Howard has, they are greasable and he aint complained about wear years later! trouble on the Ex is, most jobs are a pig, so I say do it once, right and dont look back!

agreed, I stopped getting bits off ebay late last year as they don't last but ok if you do little mileage

hopefully the balljoints will fix it then , they have grease nipples on the top also....
they look well made but guess time will tell (:
new uppers are £70 on ebay

never assume anything!

Changing the near side upper suspension arm tonight (as part of a supension rebuild this week.

Imagine my suprise on taking the old one off only to find that some muppet (not me m:D) had fitted a right hand unit on the left side.

I guess the one piece design version is very similar but they are each clearly marked LH and RH.

Ever since I have owned the car the front suspension has not been a happy place.

As well as the wrong side being fitted, they had also got the cam adjusters upside down.

...

good stuff ..hopefully that will be it ..
What milage you got ?

148k miles and rising. I need to fit the rest of the suspension this weekend as planing a business trip to edinburgh next week - 650 miles each way - no problem:)

the wrong part would account for a -3.5 deg of caster they found on the NS. and a test drive tonight has sorted the heavier steering one way compaired to the other.

inspiring :) ..... ill have a go at mine @ weekend ....weather allowing

Wow what a difference!

So having completed the change of all the front suspension components and a kwikfit re-tracking today and she is handling amazing.

It's actually the first time the steering wheel has been level when going straight ahead since I got the truck.

I had it tracked 2 weeks ago when I replaced the front tyres in a vain attempt to stop them wearing on the insides, but today with all the new bits the tracking was out by 12 deg.

So hopefully I won't need to touch it for a few years (NOT)

cheers
