Does anyone know why the left and right upper control on my 96 explorer are different? I'm just being curious is all.

As far as I know it's for alignment purposes to adjust the steering axis inclination on the right front. Why only that wheel is beyond me, but then Ford's been known to do oddball things

Yeah Im pretty sure its for alignment purposes. I did my upper and lower ball joints a couple of months ago and the upper ball join the the driver side was a pita.

No, the two upper control arms are completely different. It has nothing to do with alignment. The passenger side upper control arm is almost like two pieces. The upper two bolts go straight in to the other half which bolts in separately. The diver's side has two bolts that bolt from the sides. It's hard to explain, so it would be easier to go out and look. Just look at how the upper bolts connect the upper control arm to whatever part it is connected to.
