on a 92 xlt
i know it takes about 3 quarts of synthetic SAE 75W-140 for the rear

my questions are

1. How much does this stuff cost per quart?
2. My 92 xlt has about 120,000 miles on it, and i don't know when the last time the diff fluid was changed, should i change it as preventive caution, even though it runs fine.

thanks guys
ryan

According to FORD, they say it never has to be changed unless you drive through adverse conditions. I would change it as preventative on your truck, espeially if you have ever taken it wheeling..... I think it runs about $10 a quart

i've never takin it 4x4ing,
my girlfriend says i drive like a grandma most of the times, there is the occasional pedal to the floor moments, but thats only once in a while... 90% of the time i baby it.

is it still worth the time and money of changing it if i haven't been off roading with it

i have never changed mine and have over 106k and have been driving like john force since igot it at 60k..... it has been in numerous accidents and offroading several times..... mine still works ok...... also, do you have an LSD? if you do than you will need friction modifier

i don't think i have the limited slip you speak of, i do believe i have the 3.27 axle
hmm maybe i will consider changing the fluid soon, but not like this week soon.
it probably won't hurt it when i do change it.
at $10 a quart it better not hurt it. hehehehehe

i'm off to bed for now thanks!

I you buy regular Dino, it is about $2 a liter, syn. blend is about $3 a liter, $5-$8 for full syn. You need 3 liters not 3 quarts.

I would change it right away. The lube is cheap and you don't need much. I recommend full synthetic. I use Mobil 1 in my 3.73 LS.

Goosd luck.....

how do i go about changing it??

just but a suction pump, and put it in the fill hole and suck it all out way?

Yeah, or you can just pull the cover off and have alook inside.
