Alright, so when i drive for several minutes and warm my car up, i start hearing this rolling noise that sounds like a mild rubbing sound (thats the best i can describe it). anyways, i took my 97 xlt to a shop and they narrowed it down to either the front wheel bearing (left probably since that seems to be the side its coming from), or something in the differential. He said either way it was going to cost me almost $1000 to track it down and fix it. Since my xlt has almost hit 100,000 miles, and i need to change the fluid in the differential, should i just check out the inside when i crack open the case to the differential? is this really hard to do? i have a haynes manual but im not sure how difficult it is to change the fluid. ill change both the front and rears differential fluid at the same time if i do change it myself. the shop wanted to charge me about $190 to change the fluid on both the front and rear, is it worth me changing the fluid myself to save that money? i know some of you out there could take your explorer apart and put it back together if you wanted to, so im sure you guys could give me some good advice :) thanks for the help.

Colin.

it could be the removeable hub piece... your truck doesnt actually have hubs but there is a hub piece that houses a bearing
