I also have this issue, no chips in the old oil.
I know about the TSB on how to fix. $$$
BUT, has anyone had a rear differential fail/lockup/crapout due to this noise? I have searched the internet and can not find one instance of this happening.
Mine is not bad and changing the oil made me feel better since no parts came out with it. I can live with the whine if its not doomed to fail soon. We only paid 7K for a like new truck. We have had it 6 months and no major issues.
