By "dimmer switch" I assume that you mean the multi-function switch on the steering column. I have a '97 Eddie Bauer 5.0L and it was a snap when mine died; assume your 2000 would be similar. Got the replacement from Pull a Part for $15 and took about half an hour to change out. Excellent instructions in the Haynes book for this procedure.
